Disclaimer: I didn’t find these. This was all HigherSelf88 on the old forums and I messaged to see if they minded me sharing them again here.
Some people say that “twin flames” are just some new internet trend, but the thread about TFs in the Bible got me thinking about this.
THE TERM “TWIN FLAME” MIGHT BE NEW, BUT THE IDEA IS VERY OLD. There’s already plenty of stuff about twin flame origins out there, but I thought this was a great find.
It might be the earliest mention of “twin flame” back in the 1890s. Or “twin souls,” at least, which we still use often now.
And then this one actually says twin flames:
So next time someone calls it a TikTok trend…

Wow… I can’t believe it goes back that far.
Imagine trying to understand all of this without the resources like this great community.

This is an amazing find. Thank you so much for bringing her research back to the community.
Things like this could be sooo important, but watch this get swept under the rug by the next thread on “what does this sign mean???”. Not saying those threads aren’t helpful, but we need to understand this stuff in the bigger picture.
It’s grounding to see these physical documents. It really reinforces the understanding that this connection is a fundamental, timeless concept that predates any modern trends. It’s not about getting clicks or attention.
This is before the Internet. Before influencers. Before social media nonsense.
Seeing the terms “twin souls” and even “twin flames” in print from over a century ago helps validate the depth and reality of what we all experience.
This isn’t just about proving a point to skeptics, but about anchoring ourselves in a truth that others have recognized for a very long time.
A reminder that we’re part of a long lineage of souls on this path. A part of something bigger.
Yeah, and we think we have it hard now

It lines up with the spiritualist and Theosophy movements that were popular in the late 19th century.
Eastern philosophies about reincarnation and karma heavily influenced them, so the idea of a soul splitting and reuniting fits right in. It goes back even further. Plato’s Symposium has a similar idea and that’s the normal one we point to as the earliest written examples.
Probably goes back before him though, just not written records are left.
Sadly… this is very likely.
Those twin flame statistics a while back told us all what we kind of already expected. Most people reading this today are not really a twin flame and won’t reach union.
Attention spans like gnats and it’s not their fault. Social media is making it so much harder.

I wonder if “twin soul” meant the same thing back then as “twin flame” does for us now. Language changes over time but if you actually read into some of that writing it does seem pretty compelling.
Thank you for posting this. It feels good to see it again and a reminder of the TFs that came before us.
I’m being honest with everyone… I thought it was a social media trend originally. The more I got to read about it the more I knew it was something deeper but I had no idea documents went back this far.
Thank you for this. Saving those images to remind myself and I’ll need to look into the history more.
